28OctoberWednesdayTear-OffsA bright office farewell party with balloons and streamers. A sheet cake on the table says GOOD LUCK DAVE in blue icing. Dave, a middle-aged man in a short-sleeved shirt and tie, holds a box with his mug, a plant and a family photo. He is the only person there. Every other guest is a laptop on an office chair, some with party hats. Clyde, a little toy with an orange sunburst head, holds up a big open card, with nothing written in it, and says, "Everyone signed it." Dave says, "You're everyone." At Dave's old desk in the back, a laptop already sits in his chair, wearing his lanyard with a DAVE badge.
