A page that credits everyone we borrowed from

Michael asked for a standing page where anything taken gets credited back — "as I steal something, to credit them back." Not a music page. Art, ideas, scripts and whatever comes next all land on the same list, so the page had to be built to grow sideways rather than organised around audio.

It sits in the footer menu and takes a nav label like the other standing pages, so it leaves the home index and gets its own route.

Naming it took the longest, and was worth it

The first instinct was /thanks, which is clear and says nothing. Google suggested Holocron, which is taken by the private area. So the search ran through three vocabularies.

Star Wars, because the site already has a Holocron. Thank the Maker was the strongest — a droid thanking its creator, and a page thanking creators, the pun landing twice. Kyber, Sagrona and The Whills were the other real ones.

Plain English. Borrowed was the honest option: one word, no decoder ring, promises exactly what the page holds. Credits was rejected for a specific reason worth keeping — it reads as a movie credit roll, and in Star Wars credits are money. Two wrong meanings competing with the one you want.

The Dead and Phish, which is where it landed. Shakedown is the right economy — the lot is where things move outside the official channel, which is what taper tape and free-licensed music are — but in plain English a shakedown is extortion, so it means the opposite of thank you. Family overclaims: these are strangers whose work we took, not our community, and in a footer it reads as a team page, which the site rules out. Terrapin and Gamehendge are place names and are being held back for rooms rather than spent on a list.

Miracle won because it is the only one that describes the thing. On the lot a miracle is a ticket a stranger hands you for nothing rather than selling it, and everything on the page arrived that way. It also survives someone with no Dead context: the word is warm before you know why.

The body, after two rewrites

The first draft explained the lot ritual — finger in the air, cardboard sign, people driving the whole tour on the chance of a spare. Michael cut it. The explanation is the tell that the writer is outside the thing: if anyone knows, they know. What replaced it is first person and four sentences, thanking "every wook out there willing to share theirs."

A wook is the big-dreadlocked nomad who follows Phish, the Dead and Goose from show to show, and the joke is that they borrow everything and they stink. The word cuts both ways and that is why it works here — it is a term of abuse used as a term of affection, and it is his to use.

A second paragraph explaining what the page was for got cut too, for the same reason the site bans disclaimers: it was about us rather than the subject.

Accuracy notes

Every link was opened before it went on the page — three Pixabay profile URLs answered 403 on the first pass, which was rate limiting rather than a dead page, and all six resolved on retry.

Two claims were pulled for being inferences. The archive item's uploader is an email address, not a name, so the page does not say the taper uploaded it — only that it went up the day after the show, which the metadata does state. And the taper's pronouns are nowhere in the source, so "his own note" became "the note."
